Fennel Seeds

Description

Saunf, universally known as fennel seeds, is an aromatic, sweet herb derived from the Foeniculum vulgare plant. It features tiny, ridges-covered, oval-shaped green or yellowish seeds that are deeply rooted in culinary, cultural, and medicinal traditions—particularly across the Indian subcontinent and the Mediterranean. Just like star anise, saunf contains anethole, which gives it a bright, sweet, licorice-like aroma. However, fennel seeds are noticeably milder, cooler, and carry an herbaceous, slightly woodsy undertone.
