Description

Cloves are one of the world's most potent and recognizable spices. What you might find surprising is that they aren't seeds or roots—they are actually the dried, unopened flower buds of an evergreen tree called Syzygium aromaticum, which is native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. Unlike seeds, berries, or bark, cloves are actually the undried, immature flower buds of an evergreen tree (Syzygium aromaticum) belonging to the myrtle family. Native to the historic Maluku Islands of Indonesia (famously known as the Spice Islands), whole cloves resemble tiny, rustic metal nails. They pack an assertive, incredibly warm, sweet, and woodsy flavor profile paired with an immediate, tongue-numbing heat.
