Ajwain Seeds
Description
Carom seeds, most commonly known as Ajwain (and scientifically as Trachyspermum ammi), are an incredibly aromatic spice popular in Indian, Middle Eastern, and North African cooking. Biologically, they are the fruits of the Trachyspermum ammi herb, a relative of the parsley, cumin, and fennel family. Physically, ajwain seeds are incredibly small, oval, and grayish-green, looking almost like miniature cumin seeds. However, biting into a raw carom seed reveals an explosion of flavor that is sharp, pungent, and fiercely hot, leaving a numbing, cool sensation on your tongue.
